DURISOL FIRST CHOICE FOR COST EFFECTIVE GREEN HOMES IN DEVON

Durisol UK recycled construction materials have been used so successfully in Atlantic Developments’ recent 12-property apartment scheme development overlooking Ilfracombe Bay that another project to build 14 larger apartments is planned to take place right next door.

Senior Partner at Atlantic Developments, Paul Jagger, says that Durisol is first choice for his next project for several reasons. “As a developer trying to run a successful business, my main concerns for this and every project are quality and cost. Durisol’s innovative wall form system is made from 80% recycled wood and cement interlocking blocks, which are specially treated not to rot or burn. Suitable for internal and external walls, above ground, below ground, and up to 25 stories high, they also come with a 25-year guarantee as standard.

Pressure tests for the completed Ilfracombe development have shown that Durisol provides results three times better than the standard requirements of 10m3 /(hr8m2). Acoustic test results of the new scheme come in at 61 db against a requirement of 45 db, which is relatively unheard of in the industry.

What is more, Durisol can bring an estimated cost saving of 30% over more traditional building solutions, because the wall systems can be installed without the block laying skills necessary with many other construction materials.

Mr Jaggers said, “We’re a company of carpenters, which means that we don’t have the brick laying skills that are essential for most builds. Often, we experience difficulties in finding a reliable masonry specialist. As with any new product, there’s a learning curve, but Durisol provided the help we needed on the phone and in person. Now we can lay Durisol ourselves, saving on the expense and inconvenience of hiring in a third party.”

Atlantic Developments has sold 6 out of the 12 properties finished within their recently completed Ilfracombe project, mainly to second home and holiday home buyers. Mr Jaggers said that the next project, expected to commence in the next year, will target much of the same market with higher spec apartments.
