The Durisol product was invented in Switzerland in 1946 and over a period of 50 years companies in Austria and Canada established the product as a staple building material in their own regions. In the late 1990's it became apparent that the numerous advantages of Durisol as an environmentally sound form of construction, were rapidly growing the appeal of the product worldwide. This led to licenses being issued across western Russia, Israel, Hungary, Japan and Australia to add to existing operations in Holland and the Czech Republic. The license for the UK and Republic of Ireland was acquired by Durisol UK in 2007 and the first factory opened near Pontypool in April 2008.

In Israel the material has been used in constructing blast proof dwellings, whereas in Japan for example the ability to conform to building standards in earthquake zones has led to extensive use.

Despite the economic environment, Durisol has made an immediate impact on the UK building industry being used in projects such as schools, residential dwellings, blocks of flats and warehouse/industrial buildings.

The Durisol team in South Wales has drawn on experience gained all over the world to advise on the system and will always visit new sites/builders to give initial guidance.
